Dr. Zafar received his medical degree from Allama Iqbal Medical College and completed his Internal Medicine residency training at the University of Connecticut in Farmington. He completed his cardiology fellowship at the University of Missouri where he also served as a Clinical Assistant Professor. He received a NIH research scholarship for two years and his research interests include atherosclerosis and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS). He completed his interventional cardiology fellowship at UCSD and worked as an attending cardiologist at UCSD while completing an additional year of peripheral vascular interventional fellowship.

Dr. Zafar is proficient in performing heart catheterizations, percutaneous coronary interventions, and catheter based peripheral interventions including carotids, subclavian, renal and lower extremities. Additionally, he is skilled in Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) closures. Dr. Zafar has been actively involved as primary or sub-investigator in cardiovascular research and numerous clinical trials. He has numerous publications and abstracts and he has presented at several international meetings like American Heart Association (AHA).

Dr. Zafar moved to Nevada with his wife and children in September 2008 and is an avid sportsman and a sports fan. He joined Cardiovascular Consultants of Nevada and is welcoming all new patients.
