Dr. Routh was born in Twin Falls, Idaho. After attending Stanford University and receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology, he earned his M.D. degree at Tulane University. He completed his specialty training becoming Board Certified in Internal Medicine at UCLA and Cardiovascular Diseases at the University of Colorado. He moved to Las Vegas and joined Cardiovascular Consultants of Nevada in 1980.
He has served as Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation, Chief of Cardiology, and Chairman of the Critical Care Committee at Sunrise Hospital. As a member of the Nevada Affiliate of the American Heart Association he founded the Speakers Bureau and served as President of the Southern Division as well as the Nevada State Affiliate. To honor his service he was awarded the Steve Phalen and the Heart of Gold awards. He is a Fellow in the American College of Cardiology.
Outside activities include assisting his wife Cheryl raise two children, Scoutmaster of Troop 848, past President of the Chaparral High School Band Boosters and member of Community Lutheran Church.
